What is FERPA?
- The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of your student and their educational records.
What rights does your student have?
- Your student has the right to:
· The right to inspect and review their educational records
· The right to seek the amendment of their educational records
· The right to consent to the disclosure of their educational records
· The right to obtain a copy of their school’s Student Records Policy
· The right to file a complaint with the FERPA Office in Washington, D.C.
What rights do you have as a parent?
- After a release form is submitted, you, as the parent, have the right to be present and supportive of your student during private educational meetings and discussions.
What information is considered private?
- Enrolled courses
- Grades
- Locations of classes
- Academic standing
- Financial aid information
