During the first week of classes, students are able to make changes to their schedule without any academic or financial consequences.
Advising Advisor
A faculty or staff member who assist students with planning their program of study.
Award Letter
Lists the types and amounts of financial aid for which the student is eligible.
Canvas
Like Sakai, this is an online classroom companion where students can find their registered courses and related resources for them.
Chancellor
The Chancellor operates as the chief executive of Rutgers University–Camden, serving as a leader both on the Camden campus and in the surrounding region.
Course Number/Code
An identification number specific to a course which includes school code, department code, and class number.
Dean
While there are many types of Deans on-campus, this individual is typically the head of a department or multiple departments that cater to a particular academic division or area of concern.
Degree Navigator
An online tool used to compare the students’ academic progress to the requirements of any desired academic program.
Electives
Courses which students can take for credit toward their degree, but are not part of a required course list.
Everfi Online Modules
These are mandatory online modules that are part of a student’s new student orientation to help them address critical life skills such as alcohol abuse prevention, sexual assault prevention, and financial literacy.
FASFA
This is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is a federal form required from all students each enrolling year who wish to receive financial aid (grants, loans, work-study, etc.).
First-Gen Student
Students who are the first in their immediate family to attend post-secondary education.
Free Period
This is a time period set aside where students are not enrolled in a class. Typically, our students use this time to go to an event, attend club meetings, catch up on homework, meet with a professor/advisor, or get something to eat. Free period is every day (M, W, F 11:20 PM-12:20 PM and T, TH 12:45 PM-1:45 PM)
Full-time Student
Students with 12-course credits or more
General Education Requirements
Classes required for graduation that students must take to help provide them with a basic knowledge of a variety of topics.
Grants
A form of financial aid that may be provided by federal or state government, an institution, a foundation, or some other nonprofit funding source. These do not need to be repaid.
Loans
A form of financial aid that is available to students and their parents, which must be repaid. Payments of the loan typically begin once the student has finished school.
Matriculating Student
A student who is enrolled at a college/university with the intention of earning a degree.
MyRutgers Dashboard
An online companion which allows students to access any of the online services we have. Here students can view courses, grades, student accounting information, degree progress, alerts, and ScarletMail.
NetID
All faculty, staff, and students are assigned a Rutgers unique identifier known as a NetID, comprised of initials and a unique number (e.g. ruc123). Students will use this when logging into online programs, such as the education software Sakai, MyRutgers Portal, viewing their term bill, etc.
Non-Credited Course
Courses for which a student does not receive credit. This can include some prerequisite, general education, or transfer courses.
Non-Matriculating Student
A student who is enrolled at a college/university but not in a specific program of study to earn a degree.
One Stop Student Services Center
Known as “The One Stop,” this center acts as a hub of information for students with questions about financial aid, bill payment, registration, records, parking, and more.
Part-Time Student
Students with fewer than 12-course credits.
Pass/Fail
System where the student will not receive a letter grade. Pass or Fail is depended on student’s achievement in the class. This is typically the grading system for non-credited courses.
Prerequisite
A required course that must be completed before a student can move on to an advanced course.
Raptor Connect
An online University management system which provides connections between student services to help students make advancements towards academic goals. Students can make appointments with academic advisors and other student support staff, keep track of classes, and get reminders for important tasks and appointments.
RUHere
At the beginning of each semester, students will need to complete the RUHere confirmation of attendance process. This can be done by attempting to log into an online system. Students cannot confirm attendance until they are registered for classes.
RUID Number
A nine-digit identifier for all students. While a student’s NetID is used to log into University servers, their RUID identifies them to any University Office.
Rutgers University-Camden App
This is a phone application that students can download which provides four new ways for them to stay connected to campus:
1. Access to all their campus information on the go.
2. Keep their classes, assignments, and events organized.
3. Join the campus discussion and connect with their peers.
4. Chat with their friends and see their timetables.
Sakai
Like Canvas, this is an online classroom companion where students can find their registered courses and related resources for them. Sakai is where students will also complete any required placement testing and Academic Integrity Modules.
ScarletMail
All Rutgers students have an email account called ScarletMail (GoogleApps for Educations). During NetID activation, students set an official Rutgers email address in the form of firstname.lastname@rutgers.edu. Email sent to this address is delivered to their ScarletMail inbox. Students can access ScarletMail at scarletmail.rutgers.edu or visit the MyRutgers portal.
Scholarships
Financial support awarded to a student, based on academic achievement or other criteria that may include financial need.
Student Success Coach
A personal success coach provides individualized one-on-one coaching services to any incoming first-year student not already affiliated with other specialized cohort groups on campus.
Syllabus
This is a professors plan of action for the semester, which includes the course expectations, assignments, class schedule, grading system and any additional school policies relevant to the course.
Transfer Summary Report (TSR)
This is a report provided to all incoming transfer students which detail what college coursework has transferred to Rutgers.
Vice Chancellor
The Vice Chancellor operates as an academic and administrative leader, overseeing internal areas of the University such as Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Student Academic Success.
WebReg
The Web Registration system is where all students can register for and view their courses.
