ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY
In September 2008, the Rutgers University Senate approved a new interim academic integrity policy.
The new policy puts control of academic integrity back into the hands of the academic units and the individual campuses, with a reemphasis on education. There are central, staff and administrative resources available for faculty to consult or refer cases. Faculty will have a choice to either handle minor violations (those with a possible sanction of receiving a lower grade, make up assignments or additional work) themselves or to have them handled in their academic units by the Dean or her/his designee. The faculty will also have the option of consulting with the Dean's designee prior to deciding how to handle a specific case. Major violations (those involving possible suspension or expulsion) will be referred to the Dean's Office for decisions.
All violations will be reported in order to identify and increase penalties for repeat offenses. In addition, new, streamlined appeal process for minor offenses has been established, with a committee that includes faculty, students and an investigative administrator.
All campus violation decisions, both major and minor, will be decided by the campus under the oversight of Interim Chancellor Wendell Pritchett and his designees.
Associate Chancellor Mary Beth Daisey and the Assistant and Associate Deans designated to assist in these areas will be attending various meetings on campus to explain the process in further detail, answer questions and address any concerns. The interim policy, along with forms and additional resources, is available:

Additionally, the Campus page on academic integrity with accompanying forms and information is being updated and will be completed in the next two weeks:
Lastly, a university wide committee is being established to create a permanent academic integrity policy.
NOTE TO FACULTY. Please complete the Academic Integrity Violation Form no matter which option you choose. If you handle the alleged violation yourself, complete the first page and Part I, then submit the form, the letter of notification to the student, and any supporting materials to the FAS Dean's Office. If you choose to refer the alleged violation to the Dean's Office, complete the first page and Part II, then submit the form and relevant supporting materials to the FAS Dean's Office.
Below you will find links to several documents that will be helpful to you. Any questions about the policy or procedures can be directed to Mary Beth Daisey, Associate Chancellor for Student Affairs, who is our campus point person for academic integrity issues. In addition, please note that there is an appeal process available to students, which is administered on the campus.
